Social Communication: A Lesson from Nature/Prof. Dr. Volker Witte ...

The potential of social media is being increasingly recognized for efficient communication in very large groups. Social communication has existed in nature for millions of years, being responsible for the internal organization of some of the most successful animal groups. Social insects in particular are prime examples of swarm intelligence. Dr. Witte describes the relevant characteristics in social insect communication and their contributions to successful collective behaviour. From these insights he will conclude by asking how human social communication can learn from nature.
